The Global Hunger Index 2017 ranked India on the 100th spot out of 119 countries. Home to 1.3 billion people, a whopping 195.9 million people are undernourished in India, as published by the ‘The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2018’ report. Furthermore, 38.4% of the children under 5 years of age suffer from malnourishment and stunted growth. This imposes serious health risks with a greater chance of contracting diseases such as diarrhea, pneumonia and malaria. Hunger further shifts the focus from a child’s academic development to struggling to meet their daily food requirements.
Gangotri Charitable Trust genuinely believes that our children, who constitute India’s future, deserve better. As human beings, we have to shoulder the world’s problems. The simplest way to deal with some of them is to be empathetic and extend our generous helping hands when people direly need them. Although curing hunger and poverty are technically policy oriented at a national level, charity can help us alleviate some, if not all, of these issues at the grassroots.
With a little thought and concentrated well-planned action, we hope to feed and support people who are in desperate need for food and education. We become socially more responsible by going a step further towards ensuring a safe and healthy environment for the destitute. It is time we do our bit.
Successful food drives are all about good team work, delegation and building trust and relationships. Everyone is welcome to join us to help organize them as every penny and every helping hand counts.
We organize regular food drives at local orphanages, temples and other locations where there are serious food shortages.
Education is a means to empowering a human being. Every empowered human being can understand the ways of the world and do their bit to make it a better place. Hence, sponsoring our children’s primary education is key. We would heartily welcome donors looking to take the responsibility of a child’s education.
Distribution of books and other institutional amenities to public schools and orphanages would also significantly improve our children’s learning environment. As the world progresses, education should become a basic right to every individual and lack of opportunity should not be a deterrent towards achieving one’s academic pursuits.
We are committed towards working for a healthier environment for the underprivileged. To achieve this, we organize regular blood donation drives, free health checkups in rural areas and distribution of clothes, blankets and other basic amenities necessary to lead a healthy life with dignity.
As human beings, we believe that animal care should be an innate quality. We aim to provide medical supplies to local veterinary clinics, pet food and raise awareness for animal protection. Planting trees would help us take care of birds and make their much-needed population flourish.
Our efforts would also expand into disaster relief in the face of natural calamities such as floods, earthquakes etc. We are aiming for distribution of food and medical supplies to relief camps.
We are a group of driven and enthusiastic individuals who have adopted simplest possible ways to help our society. We believe that education, access to clean food and healthcare are basic human rights and much needs to be done to ensure that every person has access to them. This is our humble initiative to create a more egalitarian society. We sincerely believe if the society joins hands, the unfortunate and ever-increasing problems of hunger and education can be fixed, one step at a time.
